Once we get the full amount, Jim will fly to Uganda (pay his own expenses of course) and share pictures and video with you all on the groundbreaking!
In 2015, Samuel Okurut (co-founder of the Father’s Heart Foundation orphanage in El Salavador) went to visit his family in Uganda. While there he saw the extreme need of his family and extended family. His brother had been violently killed and left behind 5 little kids. His Uncle died shortly after, so did a family friend. This left 19 orphans, all of which no longer could go to school.
After some research, Samuel realized that he could create a self-sustainable school for his nieces and nephews if he could just get the school building built, and salaries for the first year of 14 teachers. After that, kids tuition would pay for itself.
The plan is to have 250 paying students (the demand is already there), which would cover the expenses (teacher salaries, textbooks, etc.) for the 50 orphans as well.
Until the school is built, however, the kids will not be in school.
Here’s an excerpt from a recent letter from Samuel:
Hello My brother I hope this note finds you well.
As I mentioned to you the need back home in Uganda with 19 orphans 10 of whom are my relatives and the other are a good friend’s 9 children….
Currently my dad and mom have been the caretakers for my nieces and nephews, and early this year my dad had an operation which he recently recovered from. He was back on his feet as a farmer taking care of the farm so everybody got fed.
This past Tuesday, one of the bulls that they use for ploughing caused him an injury, a complete fracture on his right hand. He has a cast on and is not able to take care of the farm, like ploughing weeding, planting harvesting etc.. the children are still too young to help. My mother is struggling with diabetes and is not a lot of help when it comes to physical labor.
I feel like now is the time to step in and help them, and i want to help them in away that is sustainable, I have put together a team of teachers, a lawyer, Architect and engineer to help pull the school project together.
This project will be a self sustaining project, the school will be attended by at least 300 paying students, through the school fees we collect the teacher’s salaries, feeding and all the school supplies will be met.
Please keep all the people affected in your prayers and let me know if you have any thoughts on how to make this a reality.
There is currently also a plague of locusts going on in the area, stretching from Yemen, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Millions of people will be affected. The United Nations organization is projecting severe food shortages as a result of the locusts.
